September already??

I can't believe it's Sept already. The winters seem to last forever....but not so for the summer!!!
I've been very busy and yes, have neglected my postings once again. Will try to do better this month...but must warn you....this is also the month that my beautiful daughter is getting married....so I may be a bit distracted...lol
To fill you in on what's been going on....lots of art. Yes...that's what keeps me busy in the art room and not so much online. Summer is certainly the busy season...and I'm happy for that!!















Newest pieces....I've done another Bass, different coloring than the first...and since two seagulls recently found new homes, I did another two..."Ben & Jerry"...lol



Right now I'm in the middle of a piece where I'm experimenting with backgrounds. This one is a seahorse. Usually I only do seahorses in the mini size..about 3" high. This one is 16" tall.
Will have to post a pic for you when it's done...but for right now...I'm pretty pleased with the way it's going.


The other update is that I finally got to deliver the four pieces that are becoming part of another corporate collection.
It is a brand new medical facility that is just doing the finishing touches on getting ready to open. I can't wait!!
Will tell you more about that too when the opening is official.

Soo...now that I've made a good start to a brand new month (and season) and have gotten you all up-to-date....fingers crossed that I come by here a bit more often.
At the very least...you can be guaranteed that there will be wedding pics showing up at the months end :)

A Big Oops!!

Yes...I guess mistakes do happen...even in the publishing world.
We of course expect to see it less often since there are numerous eyes that go over everything before going to print....but it still happens.

I'm honored and delighted to be a part of such a terrific publication as Cape Cod Magazine...but admit to being more than a bit disappointed in the mistake that happened in the Aug issue, especially after waiting months from when I was first approached by them till it hit the stands.

Seems that somewhere between the point where they received the images, to when it went to print, someone switched the orientation of the image...from portrait to landscape!! OH NO!!

I guess some would say an explanation is that the subject, being a fish, nobody could quickly see the mistake before it went to print.



What should have been!!



Well...being the artist...I nearly fell on the floor when I saw it. Seriously, the swimming position in that direction looks a bit unnatural to me. So...with the magic of Photoshop....I scanned that page in and corrected it myself. No, it doesn't help with the magazines out there on the stands....but made me feel better to be able to have this newly corrected page for my own personal use.



Oh well....as my daughter said when she saw it....."at least they didn't flip it the other direction and have it belly up".....lol

Reeled In

I feel as if it has been ages since I've had some good quality art time. Of course, there was the trip to Paris, then the holidays took priority, and most recently time has been spent helping my mother-in-law with the move to her new place. Now...I believe...I've finally found that quiet winter timing to get back into the swing. This past week I got a couple of piece prepped and ready and, after a bit of fighting with this one....I think I've reeled him in. He did put up a good fight....but other than maybe a last minute tweek here or there after I live with him for a few days....I believe this fellow is done!! I've done koi and goldfish numerous times in the past...but this is my first "game" fish. A bass. I think I may try catching some other new fish after this one!! 

I've given you the "before & after" here. As you can see...the drips on the underpainting are unimportant as the entire fish gets covered in the paper. The underpainting is simply the road map.
