Tree bookmark

Well...I've just finished the sample piece for the Nature Challenge at my art site for the month of Feb. It'll be posted on Monday. This time it's going to be a bookmark done in a tree theme.
The sample I've done here was first done on bristol with a drawing in ink and the neg space done with watercolor pencil and colored pencil. On top of that it had been layered with clear acatate treated with alcohol inks. I kept the tree white when I drew it so that the colors of the inks would be the tree's main color. I've backed it with a nice decorative paper and gave it a bit of a yarn topper. I like the final effect quite a bit. Hope the players will as well!

Odd things

Well....I'm hopeful that I can play in a swap with the theme "odd things with wings".
So far, this little guy is what I've come up with. I'm just letting my silly side play a bit. He is done in watercolor, ink, and colored pencils.
The wings have a little shimmer with twinkling H2O's but that doesn't scan well.
Let's see if I can come up with a few more to go with this little fella!

A peacock ATC

for a summer PAT (pick a theme) on the Illustrated Artcards site.
I really wish that all the shine and glitter of this one would show up better in the scan...but it really looks great in person. I did all the stylized feathers in pen & ink. Then, for the body, I used beautiful glitter gel pens. They blend so well and really have a nice shimmer that doesn't show all that much in the pic. I then used a variety of gold leaf for the circle in the center as well as the areas outside of the feathers.
I'm pretty pleased with the whole thing overall. It actually looks quite lovely in person!
