Catching up

Click on pics for larger images
My goodness...every time I come here I realize just how long I've been absent.
Time to catch up on things.
The last visit I was showing you my new addiction to making gel skins. Yep...I've made them and added some to my Torn Paper Paintings. A very cool addition to the mermaids which you can see in this pic.
I've also been working on a new collection of prayer flags.
A small art group I'm part of is doing this as a monthly challenge...to ourselves. I needed a brand new set...so I'm in!!
I've decided that every month I would make two...one for me and the other to send to Martha's Vineyard to my SIL Amy who I spoke of in an earlier post. She's the person I feel would find these the most meaningful.
Here is a pic of my Jan & Feb flags. For the March flags I'm required to learn "French knots"...so I haven't gotten started on that yet.
Here in New England...even though they've mentions "snow" for this week...I doubt it'll be much and we can feel spring right around the corner. There have been many days in the 50's and all the swans & geese are back in the pond behind my house.
Because I can feel the weather changing....I've started on some warm weather images in my Torn Paper Paintings....ice-cream.
They are just mini's right now....larger pieces will come later....as the weather gets warmer. YUM!

OK....still trying

to think "spring" that is!!
What a horribly cold nasty winter we've been having. I am sooo beyond ready for this to break!
Been keeping myself busy in the art room surrounding myself with "warm" images. Figure if I stay there and look at the images all day I'll stay warm and forget the frozen tundra outside.
Must say, there are some days that this works better than others.
Working on Soft Serve ice-cream can be a real challenge at this time of year....but I have a pretty active imagination....and lots of sweaters...lol
This weekend is daylight saving time....time for the clocks to spring ahead.
Lets hope the weather does the same thing!

Two Scoops

Well....today the groundhog said that spring was coming early....I certainly hope he's right!!!
I guess with spring around the corner (fingers crossed) it's time to get on the fast track with some new summer images before I find the galleries in need of some fresh work.
One of the summer images that came to mind this year was....ice cream!!!
Sooo...why not a series....sooo many flavors to choose from. I know I have a hard time picking one in "real" life....so I started with the basic....Chocolate & Vanilla.

Let's face it....everybody likes either one or both of these two.
But...with that said....I do see a series!!! Strawberry...Blk Raspberry...Mint Choco Chip...etc.
Oh yes...keep watching. More to come :)

Unexpected visitor

Well....it's amazing what you'll see happen at an impromptu pool party where temps crack 100.
With a big pool in the backyard and visiting relatives around on such a hot day...we had the crowd spend the afternoon here to visit and keep cool.

Suddenly...the sound of ice-cream truck music could be heard and one of the kids bolted up the driveway to catch it. Well.....catch it she did..lol

The driver knows a good thing when she sees it and decided to come right on down the driveway and make those goodies available and tempting to the whole crowd...which she had no trouble doing by the way.

Only trouble she had was a little in the "backing up" part. Curves in the long driveway make that a little bit of a challenge. Had to do a little video of that part of it. Certainly made for some entertainment and now all the kids think we're a regular stop for the ice-cream truck...lol

Sweet Art

I've started hosting a monthly challenge on an art site called the "Master's Challenge". I decide each month on an artist and I make a couple of sample pieces of their work. The point is to make it fun and create a postcard in the style of the artist that is choosen.

The first month I did Andy Warhol. This was a great fun way to start everyone off. Pop art is just one of those things that people aren't afraid to play with.

This month...to keep it light a while longer I picked Wayne Thiebaud. YUM!
I've always enjoyed his work and subject matter. Come on....who doesn't love dessert.!! Cakes...cupcakes...ice-cream.
I can't wait to see how many folks try something in this style. It's the kind of work you can frame and hang in your kitchen!!
While most of his work is done in a thick oil paint so that the icing looks real.....I created these two sample of his pieces in watercolor.
